Preparing a Health and Safety Policy
|
Most accidents and cases of occupational ill health, occur where there has been little or no consideration given to the processes and activities that can expose employees to unnecessary hazards. Preparing a comprehensive health and safety policy will help to reduce the level of risk and should identify all risks, advocate the required precautions, and also designate a responsible person to ensure that precautions are carried out to the required standard. You should also be aware that you must have a written health and safety policy (it is a legal requirement for anyone with 5 or more employees under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974). But that is just the beginning; it is the way that you implement the health and safety regime that will decide how effective it will be in a real working environment. |
